Getting bored? Change it up!
Ok so certain types of exercise are better for weight loss than others. This is where personal trainers come in really handy – we know exactly the best way to train for achieving your goals.
But here’s the other thing – you need to enjoy it too. If you’re bored, or simply don’t enjoy the training you are doing, change it!
You’ll lose more weight by training long term and training consistently, than you will from doing the perfect exercise you don’t enjoy and therefore don’t stick to.
I found myself in a slump recently. I just couldn’t get motivated to exercise and I had to use willpower to force myself to go to the gym. Willpower is limited and it doesn’t last for long.
I realised recently that one of the key reasons I stopped feeling motivated was that I was actually BORED. I’ve been lifting weights in order to keep a lean, toned appearance for about 2 and ½ years. I’ve always LOVED it. In fact I’d go so far as to say that I felt it was a part of my identity, being a girl who loves lifting.
But the sad fact is after 2.5 years, I am bored of it. The way I see it, I have two options:
Option 1: keep forcing myself to go as it’s the BEST training system for my goals, but open myself up to finding excuses not to train because deep down I really don’t want to.
Option 2: just train in a different way that I enjoy, because consistent exercise is most important.
I chose option 2 and now am training in a completely different way. And most importantly I am training consistently again.
Remember: you don't have to hate fitness or force yourself, you can find something you enjoy.
So go ahead, change it up. The most important thing is that you ENJOY your training.
And remember to love yourself enough to do the work
